Social Visits 2023 to date
2023
November: A visit to the Highways & Traffic Management centre.
This was a very popular visit so had to be split into two dates. A very interesting morning with a very good speaker explaining how it all works.
December: Another trip to the Northcott Theatre.
A few members went to see the pantomime, Dick Whittington; a very funny company called Le Navet Bete present this show.
2024
January: The annual lunch to the Devon Hotel was re-started.
March: Visit to the Bill Douglas Museum.
Several members enjoyed a guided tour around this very interesting cinema museum.
April: A visit to the recycling centre.
Several members attended this visit to Exton Road, Marsh Barton where we were given a guided tour and a talk with a very knowledgeable manager.
June: Cream tea in a member’s garden.
Not so well attended as before Covid but still enjoyable and the sun shone.
July: Exeter Energy recovery Facility.
This was a visit that had been delayed previously due to the Covid restrictions, where we were shown how the energy from waste is produced.
August: A guided walk around Heavitree.
A member gave a Red Coat guide style walk around Heavitree pointing out the historical buildings in the area. With tea afterwards in a local café.
October: Freemasons Hall, Gandy Steet.
After a talk from Reuben Ayres from the Freemasons Hall, it was suggested that we had another visit as a lot of members did not attend the previous visit in 2019. This was again well attended and we were given a good talk again and shown around the building, which is like a Tardis, very small on the outside but huge inside.
December: Another trip to the Northcott Theatre.
Some members attended the pantomime, which was by the same company as previously.
