The Exeter Forum is a long established local organisation. Its offers talks and social activities for retired people. It was originally for retired professional and business people, but that restriction no longer applies. It meets most Wednesday mornings throughout the year at The Mint Methodist Church in Fore Street, Exeter, and at most of these members can enjoy a talk or lecture. Typically over the course of the year members are able to listen to up to 45 talks or presentations. |
Members assemble for meetings from 10:15 am. After time for coffee and socialising, the weekly talk starts, usually at around 10:45 am. The talks are given by guest speakers and the topics they cover range widely - history, science, the arts, health, or civic issues for example. After time for questions, meetings typically end at about 12 noon. Visitors are welcome to come to these talks, subject to a modest charge of £3.
Over time a number of special interest sub-groups have been set up. These include groups for music appreciation, reading and walking. They meet monthly except for the walking group, the programme for which is currently in abeyance. In addition our social organisers arrange visits to local places of interest from time to time and organise a New Year lunch. In May every two years, there is a Forum holiday when a number of members spend up to a week away in an interesting part of the country.
The half-yearly subscription is a very reasonable £25. Those interested in finding out more about us or joining should contact our Hon. Secretary, whose details may be found here.
