WALKING GROUP
EXETER FORUM WALK.
Thursday May 28th.
Start time 11am Meeting at Woodbury Castle car park. Distance approx. 4 miles. Guide. Adrian Walters.
The car park is free, about 25 minutes drive from Exeter and off the B3180. Postcode EX5 1JJ In the unlikely event that the Castle car park is full, there is another car park on the opposite side of the road called Estuary View. There is no cafe for refreshment on the walk so do bring your own food and drink. Woodbury Castle is an Iron Age hill fort on the Pebblebed Heaths, part of the Clinton Devon Estates, it therefore has well maintained firm footpaths over an undulating landscape. Thank you to Adrian for selecting the route and offering to be our guide. If there are any other Forum members who know of a suitable walk and would be prepared to lead, please do let Iain Dunnett know.
At Black Aller Covert, Escot
Forum walks take place from February through to November and currently are held every month on a Thursday, usually starting at 10:30am. They are led by members of the group and are normally less than 6 miles in length, with varying levels of difficulty. The programme is published twice yearly in advance. Many members find the walks a useful way of getting to know other members of the Forum. In addition to the opportunity to enjoy the countryside and to take exercise, a large amount of talk goes on. The walks usually incorporate a lunch in a convenient pub or cafe, although sometimes in the summer months walks with picnics will be programmed .
It is sensible to wear boots and have protective clothing given our unpredictable climate. Normally phones and first aid kit are carried but walkers walk at their own risk.
Walk leaders and back markers should have each other’s mobile phone numbers so the leader can be informed if any walker drops out. This is for safety reasons and to ensure that walkers do not become parted from the group.
