9th March Bill T. A gentle, approximately 3 mile walk, from the car park at the top
of Peak Hill (Sidmouth) to Ladram Bay. Both landscapes and seascapes are
spectacular. We walk on well-trodden footpaths but boots and sticks are
recommended. Refreshment details to follow. I could take 3 passengers in my
car as public transport to the walk's starting point is not available. Car parking
is free.

Grid ref 065848. Route - Kersbrook, Budleigh Salterton, Tidwell House,
Hayeswood Lane. 4 miles. Lunch at the Sir Walter Raleigh pub in East
Budleigh.
6th April Keith and Irene B. A walk along the E x e with some sections on
private land walking by the Exe. A climb to Upton Pyne church (as described
in The Forum talk on March 8th).
Meet at Bernaville Nurseries. Enter from A377 Exeter to Crediton road shortly
after Cowley Bridge. Turn left as you enter and go as far as you can towards
Exeter. Lunch in the Bernaville Restaurant. It is licensed and does roasts and
pub style food.
Two walks available, one of about 4 miles and one of under 2 miles, both
visiting the church. Boots and sticks advised for both walks.
20th April J e n n y W. An easy to moderate walk of 4.5 miles starting at
Smallbrook on the A377 and following a circular route to the east around
Hookway and Fordton, mostly through rolling farmland with panoramic views.
Take the A377 from Exeter and pass through Newton St Cyres towards
Crediton. Turn left as the main road takes a sharp bend to the right. Almost
immediately turn right to park beyond the Parish notice board (OS 866986).
Lunch will be at the Stables pub (next to Bernaville nurseries). Tel: 01392
435119.
4th May Peter & Jean B. Meet in the rear car park of the Otter Inn,
Colaton Raleigh for the 10:30am start of this walk. We will be making for
Stowford Farm along lanes and paths (which can be muddy), then climbing
steadily to the edge of Colaton Raleigh Common. From here the route will
head northwards along the common's edge to Hawkerland, and then take
permissive tracks back to Victoria Sawmills and Colaton Raleigh. The length
will be about 5 miles. It entails crossing two fords, so waterproof boots are
strongly advised! Lunch has been booked at the Otter Inn for between 1pm and
1:30pm.
18th May Jenny C. An interesting walk around the outskirts of Lympstone with a
diversion to the Dissenter's burial ground. Approximately 3 miles, with one hill. Meet in the
Lympstone car park. Lympstone can also be reached by the Exeter to Exmouth train, and there is a train from Exeter Central at 9.53 which gets to Lympstone at 10.11.
Lunch is in the Swan Inn.
1st June Bob Dightam. Meet outside Thorverton Arms(GR 925021) in the centre of the village of Thorverton. Parking is available on surrounding streets. There is a 55B bus from Exeter at 9.45am arriving at the Thorverton Arms at about 10.10am. The problem for those who may wish to use public transport is that return services from Thorverton are at 1.10pm and 3.10pm so it may be difficult to get lunch in time if wanting to return on the earlier service.
The walk will be about 4 miles along lanes and footpaths with one steepish ascent. We will have lunch afterwards at the Thorverton Arms.
15th June Tricia Bisley. Meet at Escot Park (GR 080983) in the far car park near the toilets. We will do a four mile circular walk with good views of open countryside from paths and lanes in the area. We will also visit the Chapel grounds. There are three stiles and it could be muddy in places. Boots and sticks are recommended. Option of lunch in the restaurant to revive us!
29th June Diana Taylor. Exeter’s famous people & historic places. This walk will take you around the city centre looking at Blue Plaques of Exeter’s famous people, some of which were erected by Exeter Civic Society and also to some of Exeter’s historic places on the way. Diana has used the Exeter Trails map available at the Tourist Information Centre as a starting point and added some extra information. We will not be walking the whole time but will stop at appropriate points as Diana reads out some information that she has gathered on the subjects.
Meet outside Pyramids swimming pool at 10.30am, lunch will be at Harry’s Restaurant in Longbrook Street at 1pm. Menu choices may be required if more than 10 people are attending.
Contact Diana on 1392 273732 or Paul on 07734096174 if more information is needed.
