walks programme - July-November 2016
21 July Sheila W and Bernice K: The walk is through River Bovey Woodlands and the old Newton Abbot-to-Moretonhampstead railway line. Distance: 3 – 3½ miles. Parking available in the public car park in Bovey Tracey (on the right as you enter the town). Lunch in local café/pub. There is scope for a shorter walk near Bovey so the members of the shorter walks group may like to do this and join the others for lunch.
4 August Bill T: Budleigh Salterton to Ladram Bay returning along the cliff path. About 5 miles, easy walking with just one stile. Starting along the riverside from White Bridge. Parking is along the roadside on both sides of White Bridge. Lunch venue to be decided.
18 August Sue and Mike S: A 5 mile walk starting at 10:30 am from the car park of the King’s Arms Inn, Tedburn St. Mary, EX6 6EG, using lanes, footpaths and farm tracks. Some of the tracks are stony and could be muddy therefore it is advisable to wear boots and if you use poles you may find these useful. There is one short steep climb and two longer but more gradual climbs. For those who love stiles, sorry NO STILES. The walk includes some exceptional views of mid Devon countryside, particularly towards Dartmoor. Lunch will be at the King’s Arms Inn, Tedburn St. Mary, who have given permission to use their car park.
1 Sept Jenny W: It will be a circular walk of 4 1/2 miles, starting at 11.oo from the top car park at Haytor (the second car park, at the top of the hill, after the one with the information hut and toilets).
The walk goes past Haytor and the old granite quarry, across the Becka Brook and up to Greator Rocks, taking a look at the Medieval village, if wished. Then back across the Becka Brook and past Smallacombe Rocks and back to Haytor and the car park. The walk does some have uphill and downhill gradients, but there are no stiles. The views over Dartmoor and beyond are beautiful.
Please note the later start of 11.00 and bring a picnic lunch. You are advised to wear boots or stout shoes, and you may find a walking stick useful.
15 Sept Jenny C: A walk from Broadclyst to Killerton and back, approx 6 miles with lunch at Killerton Stables Café half way through. A level, easy walk on paths and lanes. Meet in the free car park at Broadclyst. The Cullompton bus (every 20 mins) stops in Broadclyst. There is one from Exeter bus station at 9:50 am (1B) and 10:10 am (1A).
29 Sept Ken R: The 3 mile walk starts from Salcombe Regis car park which is just below the churchyard (SY148888) at 10:30. We shall go along the cliff top then inland to the Donkey Sanctuary. There are 4 easy stiles. Boots and sticks are desirable. Lunch is at the Blue Ball, Sidford.

27 October Michael H: Walk details to follow later.
