walks programme - july-october 2017
27 July Jenny C - A walk from Newton Poppleford of about 4½ miles. Walking by the river to Tipton St John and then returning on paths and road via Venn Ottery. One bit might be muddy so boots and poles could be useful. Includes one hill and one stile. Lunch venue to be decided, possibly the Otter Inn at Coleton Raleigh. Meet in the free car park in Newton Poppleford at 10:30 am. Newton Poppleford can also be reached by the Exeter to Sidmouth bus which runs every half hour.
8 August Diana T - NB This is a TUESDAY Exeter’s famous people and historic places. This second city centre walk takes you to other areas in the city centre looking at Blue Plaques, some of which were erected by Exeter Civic Society and also to some of Exeter’s historic places. We will not be walking the whole time to allow for the imparting of informationat various locations.
Meet outside The Mint, Fore Street at 10:30 am. Lunch will again be at Harry’s Restaurant in Longbrook Street at 1 pm.
24 August Jenny W - A circular walk of about 4 miles, adjacent to Stover Country Park, following part of the Templer Way and seeing the restoration work of the Stover canal by the Stover Canal Trust. More details to follow.
7 Sept Keith and Irene B - Lustleigh, leave at 10:30 am. A walk on the edge of Dartmoor of a little over 4 miles. No stiles. Boots and sticks advised. Meet at the Cleave public house where parking should be available. Turn into Lustleigh from the Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead road and drive right through the village.
After lunch there will be a visit to the restored Kelly mine. If there is demand a shorter walk will leave the Cleave at 11:30 am.
21 September - Vacant Slot
5 October Peter and Jean B - Meet in the car park of Coldharbour Mill, Uffculme, (OSGR ST063122) at 10:30 am for a walk of about 4.7 miles, going part way towards Culmstock and back, partly along lanes, partly along the River Culm. Mostly gentle or no gradients. Some historical interest in Uffculme and at the mill; riverside flora and fauna, and the Millenium Wood at Hunkin Wood. Lunch probably at the cafe at the mill on our return.
19 October Sue and Mike S – Stover Country Park. A 4½ mile walk with no hills or stiles. A picnic lunch by the lake afterwards if fine. More details to follow.
